My Curly Calendar

Every time I make plans, I have to factor in how my hair will look that day. I have very little control over my hair’s behavior, but if I keep mental track of its schedule, I can at least manage to be seen with some good hair days.

I follow the Curly Girl Method, and wash my hair once a week. As the week progresses, so does the level of frizz. Wash Day is time intensive, so I can’t make any evening plans. My hair takes forever to dry, so I know that I cannot go outside the day after Wash Day until at least late afternoon, after I can scrunch out the gel crunch. If I have Zoom meetings that day, I leave the camera off to avoid being seen with “ramen noodle” hair, and let my coworkers think what they will. They probably assume I’m hungover.

With a bit of maintenance work, I can then usually have several decent hair days, especially with the help of barrettes, before it’s messy bun time. Some people can make a messy bun look effortlessly fun and carefree, but mine is clearly covering for something. And then it’s Wash Day again, and then the whole thing starts all over again.

    Have you considered dreadlocks? 😀

For me the less often I wash my hair with shampoo the less frizz. The natural oils plus sleeping on it flattens and smooths it out as time progresses… thus a decrease in frizz over time. It sounds like you experience the reverse.

Yeah, it’s different when you use hair products. You start with the curls and then they devolve over time.
