Niecelet Has Plans

My 3-year-old niece has been very into the Frog & Toad books lately (fantastic books, highly recommend). In one story, Toad (or possibly Frog) plans out his day, with list items like “get up,” “eat breakfast,” and so on. Niecelet is quite taken with this idea.

This is what you get for reading to your kids.

Panel 1: A grandmother asks her young granddaughter, "Sweetheart, can I brush your hair?" The child responds, "It's not on my plan for today."
Panel 2: The grandmother asks, "Can we put it on your plan for tomorrow?" The child answers, "...No."

My mother believes very strongly that one should brush one’s hair every day. Niecelet disagrees.

I think it’s pretty common for curly kids to hate having their hair brushed. I know I sure did. No one enjoys having someone else try and tug a brush through their knots and tangles, and especially not someone who has trouble sitting still. And brushing brushes out the curls too.

Personally, I want Niecelet to love her curly hair; I wasted years hating my own. So more power to her, I say.
