Zeno’s Purradox

I vaguely recall, back in 10th grade Geometry class, learning about Zeno’s paradoxes of motion. One in particular states that before you travel any distance, you must first travel half that distance, and before you travel half that distance, you must first travel half that half, etc etc, and therefore it’s impossible to get anywhere.

Which seems ridiculous, but if you want a real-world application, just look at cats.

I like to stroll around the neighborhood on nice days, and as a cat fan, I always say hi to any cat I happen across and see if I can pet it. Now of course, these cats are often in other people’s yards and driveways, and I don’t want to trespass, so I frequently play that infuriating game where you try to get a cat to come over to you.

And there you go: Zeno’s Purradox.

Panel 1: A woman kneels at one end of an arrow spanning the image. At the other end sits a cat. The woman is holding out her hand and saying "pspsps."
Panel 2: The cat walks towards the woman.
Panel 3: The cat stops walking. The woman holds out her hand and says "pspsps."
Panel 4: The cat walks towards the woman again.
Panel 5: The cat stops again. The woman holds out her hand and says "pspsps."
Panel 6: The cat walks towards the woman.
Panel 7: The cat stops again. The woman holds out her hand and says, "pspsps."
Panel 8: The cat lies down instead of coming over. The woman is frustrated.

The cat’s name is actually Zeno.

That would be a really good cat name.
